About the blog

When I was a kid, out shopping with my mom, she would constantly assure me that she could make pretty much anything and everything we saw in stores, and probably do it better. It drove me nuts.

Today I do exactly the same thing.* I don’t have a daughter to inflict it on though, so I share my creations with the internet. Drop by every Thursday for new craft ideas, and full tutorials approximately every other week. Opinion giving, snarking and random tangents will also be featured.

*This delights my mother. You`ll see her stopping by regularly to comment on my posts, and complaining if they`re late.

About the blogger

I’m a twenty-something-approaching-30 on Canada’s drippy west coast who crafts, plays video games, reads, crafts some more and does other stuff when time allows. Usually I also hold down one of those coveted but dreaded “day jobs,” cuz it pays that other dreaded thing called “rent.” At the moment my day job is a pretty fun one – I nanny a rather charming 2 year-old. Among my larger projects, I’m the Prizes & Sponsorship Coordinator for the annual fundraiser Desert Bus for Hope. I tried out being Superwoman`s stunt double for a while, but the spandex chafed.

I have a very loving & patient husband (who dabbles in tabletop game design and app-making, as well as being a member of LoadingReadyRun), my very own crafting lair (I hear some households call this room the study) and crafting supplies positively coming out my ears. I also have a BA in creative writing, stuffed into a corner of a filing cabinet somewhere.

So stick around for DIY fun! Feel free to share your opinions, ideas and improvements. Just follow Wheaton`s law, and happy crafting.

~Tally

  1. Hi Tally,

I just saw the gorgeous paper pumpkins you made by adapting my paper lantern template. They’re lovely! I can’t wait to see what else you’ve made with the template :-)

I hope you don’t mind, but I borrowed one of your pumpkin pictures and put it on my lantern page with a link to your site. I’m sure all my readers will love to see this project, and have a look at your site. They are just the cutest little pumpkins I have seen!

Let me know if that’s OK – if not, I’ll take it down.

All the best, and happy crafting,

    Stephanie

P.S. I’m running a Xmas craft contest, and we’d be honoured if you’d like to enter, because I bet you’ve got some fab ideas, and we can offer another link into your site. Anyway, if you’re interested, you can find the details on my site.

    Hi Stephanie,

That’s great, no problem at all! I’m glad you like my adaptation. And I would love to enter your Christmas craft contest – I’ve already got a couple ideas… :) Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Hello!! I just discovered your blog after it was linked to on Tumblr. Oh my gosh, you make the most adorable things and you make them look so easy that I’m actually going to give them a go!!
You are doing a great job, but I think you could expand your blog simply by creating a Facebook page for it. You know, something your readers can ‘like’ and then have each of your new blog posts appear directly onto their Facebook NewsFeed so they don’t miss any. Perhaps you already have one and I’m being silly… if so please link me!!

Thanks so much for the effort you put into what you do.

Thanks guys! I didn’t want to do a FB page a while back because it seemed too “ooh, look at me,” at the time, but now I do think it might be a nice thing to have.

I will work on creating one just as soon as I can!

  6. Hi Tally,

My creativity has been quite limited to food, until rather recently. For inspiration, I began perusing the interwebs until I came across your blog–FABULOUS! I’ve literally stalked every one of your archives and your stuff is not only amazing but $$ friendly. Thanks so much for the tutorials and ideas (and I love that you seem to have a niche for felt, my most recent obsession). Happy creating!

Thanks Claire! Glad you’re enjoying the tutorials. They’re generally $$ friendly because I frequently don’t have a ton of $$ myself, so yeah, I know how that goes. (The blog partially started as an answer to my depression over not being employed and not making lovely living off my creative writing degree – actually a semi-surprise to foolish little me.) But there is always enough to make something or other. Happy crafting! I hope you’ll stick around – I can positively promise there will be many more felt projects. :)

    Hey Tally!

So, I totally love this site! I found it about a month ago and you post so many great ideas! Especially loved the felt dice bag. I can’t sew much, but I was able to do those easily. The paper plants were another huge hit. This site is becoming my go-to for when I want to craft an affordable present.

    I had a couple thoughts/requests:

    1) Wouldn’t a Ponyo fish pattern be adorable? Kinda like the fishes you did last week?

    2) I just found a load of seed beads in some boxes of my packed up childhood crafting supplies. I spent like a whole day sorting colors and now . . . I’m stuck as to what to make with them. Any chance you have any ideas that could help me out?

Thanks so much again for the weekly ideas and fun stories!

So glad you’re enjoying the blog! It’s always super exciting to hear that people are using my tutorials and finding them helpful.

A Ponyo fish patter would totally be adorable. I’ll have to put it on my projects list. (Unless you’re already working on one?)

Great question about the seed beads. I’m going to ponder that one a bit and get back to you. In the meantime, a while back I saw this rather clever idea for sorting and storing them: http://www.wikihow.com/Store-Seed-Beads-in-Plastic-Straws

After that my friend ask me “What about the other people that will like the site but cant understand it?”. Now we are making blog in which we are collecting DIY ideas from English sites and translating them in Bulgarian. We started with your site. :))
I translated three of your posts and of course I post in them a link of your site. :))

      Hi Tina,

Thank you so much for your lovely comments. I’m so pleased to hear that you and your friend AND your mom are enjoying my blog and getting creative! I think the idea of making a blog for DIY translations for English is a lovely one, and I don’t see a problem with reposting projects as translations as long as you very clearly give credit and link back to the original site for each project. In the case of this blog, my whole purpose is to get more people interested in crafting and trying out new projects, so the more people who can read the instructions and try projects out, the better. :) Thanks for asking me about it, and thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you continue making lots of lovely things!
